Carravacas de Primicia Rosado 2016
Rioja DOCa
Loading...
Founded just 30 years ago, Bodegas Primicia was counted among Spanish wine expert John Radford’s top 20 Rioja cellars and has been rated highly by Parker. This rosado, new for us, has Tempranillo’s pretty berry character and terrific freshness too.

The Wine
We tend to think of Rioja as red and perhaps white, but rarely associate the region with rosé. However, Rioja’s modern pinks are among its most delicious wines. This is one from a winery founded in 1985 by the Madrid brothers. Soon after, the cellar celebrated the first of many accolades, winning the ‘Grand Prix d’Honneur’ at Vinexpo in Bordeaux. Winemaker Fernando Domingo (who trained under the great oenologist Don Manuel Ruiz Hernández) used pure Tempranillo for this rosado. The delicate colour is achieved by a short maceration of the juice with the skins. Cool fermented, the wine is fruity, floral and fresh with good intensity and notes of strawberry and raspberry. Delicious with all sorts of seafood and especially appetising on its own.
