The Bordelais couldn’t believe their luck when 2010 proved to be “another embarrassing ‘once in a lifetime’ vintage that followed the ‘once in a lifetime’ 2009” (Neal Martin). For an affordable taste of the bounty, this estate claret is hard to beat.

The Wine
Château Clos du Moulin is a small estate of just 12 hectares based in the little village of Saint Christoly de Médoc and has been run by Jean-Michel Boyer’s family for three generations. Unusually for the region, Jean-Michel grows more Merlot than Cabernet, so his wines tend to be very approachable when young – especially in ripe vintages like 2010. His insistence on rigorous sorting of the grapes keeps quality very high, while a combination of traditional winemaking and modern technical know how captures all the classic character of his estate’s great terroir. With its silky tannins and long, lush fruit, this is a wine you can enjoy now or cellar for a few years. The perfect partner for rich beef stews, game or firm cheeses.
