The Wine
Château de Malleret is a beautiful Haut-Médoc estate that combines a grand residence with superb quality wine for a surprisingly modest price. It’s now three centuries old and for most of that time was the property of the Clossmann family. Today it’s in the capable hands of Bruno Vonderheyden and Florence Deguillaume, who have invested significantly in the estate’s 54 hectares of vines and grand cellars. 2013 was not the easiest vintage for Bordeaux, but, judging by this claret’s medals from three prestigious competitions, the team at Château de Malleret had no problems. Aged in French oak, this silky Bordeaux made primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is a real charmer. Decant an hour before serving with grilled meats or coq au vin.
