The Wine
Château La Croix Bonneau is a bijoux property of 4 hectares in Montagne, a satellite of Saint Emilion. It was bought in 2005 by Eric Salmon, who has since greatly improved quality in the vineyard and cellar. The area’s clay soil gives fruity wines which tend to be delicious at an earlier age than equivalent wines from Saint Emilion. Eric further enhances his cuvée by reducing yields (bunches per vine), thereby increasing concentration. The 35 year old vines are hand harvested and the grapes manually sorted to ensure the utmost quality. 14 months in a third new oak barrels has lent a rich seam of complexity and oak to the wine. Decant carefully before drinking, leaving any sediment in the bottle, and enjoy with a roast or confit de canard.
