The Wine
Of the 2005, Jancis Robinson MW said “This is surely Bordeaux’s best vintage of the century so far. It is chock full of everything – fruit, acidity, colour and tannin!” Tasted at 10 years old (in 2015), it was close to maturity, with Robert Parker praising its “strong and impressive” character. We’ve been patient and waited: this red is at long last ready to drink! Pascal Modet’s family have been in the Cadillac region for five generations, starting as labourers and eventually purchasing Château Melin in 1908. This prize Right Bank property is ideal for Merlot and Cabernet, with gravel banks that (in Pascal’s words) fondle the banks of the Garonne River. 2005 is one of Melin’s most intense reds yet, perfect for partnering finest roast beef.
