The Wine
Coonawarra isn’t much to look at. A bit of a one-horse town and very flat – but it makes great Cabernet Sauvignon thanks to deep red clay soils over limestone. Over the years Coonawarra has given birth to quite a few winners of the Jimmy Watson Trophy, pretty much the FA Cup for young Aussie reds. This gem is a cleanskin, an Aussie peculiarity that allows top wineries to sell surplus cases of wine quickly and anonymously at a one-off low price. That’s how our Buyer Dan Parrott was able to get his hands on this amazing red for such a song. It is a wine with outstanding pedigree, full of cassis, pepper, plum and spice.
