The Wine
This noble blockbuster comes from the renowned Brunier brothers, makers of Vieux Télégraphe, considered to be the pinnacle of Châteauneuf reds. Since they have taken over Clos du Duc quality has soared as they lavish it with the same care and attention. This wine is a must-try for fans of these famously hedonistic reds. Robert Parker, who began his critic’s career with wines from this region, is a big fan: “The 2009 possesses deeper black raspberry and black cherry fruit notes [than the 2008] intertwined with hints of incense, pepper and spring flowers. Elegant and medium to full-bodied with ripe tannins.” It’s ready to enjoy now yet has years of potential ahead of it. Decant and serve with roast lamb or duck, or a traditional cassoulet.
