For many wine and food lovers, Italy means Tuscany and Chianti. But there are white wines from Tuscany, too, dazzlingly fresh and none better than this one from gifted winemaker Paolo Masi. He’s been delighting fans with his handcrafted wines for two decades now, and is a great exponent of the style. He makes it at Fattoria di Basciano, the family property founded in 1900 high on a hill overlooking the Argomenna Valley. Paolo’s Bianco Vergine is a mix of native Trebbiano and Malvasia, with international star Chardonnay to add a little extra roundness. It’s all about crisp, zesty fruit, so makes a most refreshing apéritif. Ideal food partners include delicate dishes like grilled fish, summer salads, risotto bianco or creamy chicken pasta.
