The Wine
The wine that put Tuscany on the map was Chianti. However, the Tuscan ‘winescape’ changed dramatically in the 1970s when Italy’s oldest and most famous wine dynasty, Antinori, caused great controversy by introducing ‘Bordeaux imposter’ Cabernet Sauvignon. It was blended with Sangiovese and then aged in French barriques to create Tignanello – the first Super Tuscan. The idea soon caught on. Collezione Privata comes from Antinori’s neighbour Fattoria Pratale. It’s a combination of finest Sangiovese and Merlot, aged in barrels for 12 months. 2014 is a superb year, as this beauty attests. Rich and opulent yet beautifully polished. Brimming with smoky black fruit flavours and gentle spice. Serve with fine cuisine from cannelloni to roast beef.

Super Tuscans this year (2014) are going to be very exciting for any Italian wine collector
