The Wine
Enjoy a deliciously elegant, moreish white made from Verdicchio. This great grape produces tasty wines that can be drunk young but with a little age can develop a superb, nutty, buttery complexity still with a taut lemony acidity – not unlike classy Chablis. It’s one of Italy’s most appealing varieties and performs at its best on the sloping vineyards of the Marches’ Castelli dei Jesi. There the noble Leopardi family have a beautiful, historical estate. For five centuries the family have been artists and winemakers. Their most famous ancestor, from the 19th century, is the poet Giacomo Leopardi, as important to Italians as Shakespeare is to us. Match their lovely Verdicchio with Italy’s traditional antipasti or fish in a creamy lemon sauce.
Enjoy a deliciously elegant, moreish white made from Verdicchio. This great grap
A really characterful Italian white – bright, lemony fruit and a gently creamy, nutty layer
