A rare taste of Nero di Troia, one of Puglia’s finest grapes, more often found in pricey DOC blends but here solo in all its glory. Made by top Italian winemaker Mario Ercolino, this luscious red is full of wild blackberry, violet and smoky vanilla.

The Wine
The Barbanera family and top consultant Mario Ercolino have discovered just how to get the most from the superb Nero di Troia grape. The result is the deliciously dark, velvety Corsiero. No need to blend it with softer varieties – gently pressed and carefully vinified, it makes a seductively deeply flavoured, fruit rich, aromatic red. Nero di Troia is named after the city of Troia in northern Puglia, which Greek hero Diomedes is said to have founded after defeating Troy in Asia Minor with the famed Trojan Horse. Just outside Troia, the story goes, Diomedes planted vine cuttings that were named Nero after their dark skinned grapes and the deep coloured wine they produced. Rich, warming Corsiero is perfect with pasta or hearty meat dishes.

I love many Puglian Primitivos and Negroamaros so thought I’d give this a try – what a treat!
