Top-drawer Châteauneuf-du-Pape from a beautifully situated estate described by fine wine guru Robert Parker as “excellent”. This powerful yet silky smooth red from the southern Rhône’s flagship region is delicious now but will reward cellaring, too.

The Wine
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most sought-after and prestigious red in the southern Rhône – “a grandly soft wine, deliciously burdened with sweetness and spice,” according to Andrew Jefford in The New France. Dating back to the 17th century, Domaine de Nalys is a magnificent property with three highly prized vineyards – Nalys, which surrounds the château, La Crau and Le Bois Sénéchal – the last two being among the region’s most celebrated terroirs. This domaine is a favourite of critic Robert Parker who writes " all its reds are disarmingly lush, seductive and delicious". This velvety, mouthfilling 2009 offers concentrated damson and raspberry flavours with notes of liquorice and tobacco. Enjoy with roast meats, especially lamb or duck.
