The Wine
This Gold medal red was a stand-out favourite of all our in-house tasters, who found it silky, ripe and charming. Its name means “the big press” in Provençal, the regional dialect of the southern Rhône. François Moricelly is the estate’s fourth generation owner and he has extracted oodles of succulent flavour from his grapes for this sumptuous red. Domaine le Grand Destré lies just north of Châteauneuf du Pape, and, like the terroir of that famous region, its vineyards are strewn with large pebbles. These retain heat from the sun during the day and at night radiate warmth back onto the vines. Perfect for ripening sun-loving Grenache and Syrah. Supple, juicy with a bite of freshness, this herb scented red is ideal with lamb and ratatouille.
