Domaine Malet Réserve Alain Malet 2014
Touraine AOP

Domaine Malet’s standard Touraine Sauvignon is a delicious grapefruit white, yet this Réserve version is a real step up and a big step closer to the Sancerre style you find from vineyards next door. Flinty intensity and elegant laser-like minerality.

The Wine
Touraine lies on the east side of the Loire, close to Sancerre. No surprise then that the wines bear a close resemblance. For three generations the Malet family have grown top quality grapes on classic chalk and flint-rich soils to sell to other estates. However, in 2001 brothers Alain and Bruno Malet took control of the property and decided to start creating and bottling wine under their own name. They now make two levels of Sauvignon – standard Touraine, and their Réserve, using grapes from older vines so the wine has even greater concentration. Buyer Mark Hoddy was very taken with both. This Réserve has a smoky, flint, citrus and herbal aroma with stony, lemony intensity. A classic match with seafood or warm goat’s cheese and pear salad.
