The Wine
Jean-Pierre Moueix arrived in the Médoc in 1930 keen to make his name in the wine trade but, unable to get a foothold there, he turned to the châteaux of Saint Emilion and Pomerol on the Right Bank. Today he is one of the most famous names in Bordeaux and the flagship Moueix property, Château Pétrus, produces one of the most expensive wines in the world. This fabulously smooth Right Bank claret was made by Jean-Pierre’s son, Christian, who was recently declared ‘Man of the Year’ by Decanter magazine. Christian has access to fruit from some of the finest estates in the region and is a talented winemaker himself – so his sumptuous red offers a real taste of luxury. Soft enough to enjoy on its own, it’s better still with a Sunday roast.
