The Wine
Le Chai specialises in wines from Laithwaites’ heartland, Bordeaux. Friendships built up over decades give us access to small parcels from Pauillac to Pomerol, at remarkably keen prices. Our chief winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua personally selected the Merlot for this cuvée from a passionate small grower we’ve known for some time, before ageing the wine in premium-oak barrels in the cool confines of the cellar. Let wealthy investors pay top dollar for famous names while you savour this lovely Saint-Emilion for less than £20. Shows all the hallmarks of fine ‘Right Bank’ claret – plum, bramble and cinnamon aromas and lovely mineral complexity – plus the easy-drinking elegance of the 2007 vintage. Serve with roast red meats or confit de canard.
