The Wine
Nicolas Potel’s red Burgundy is as authentic as it is delicious. Quite a rarity at this more modest end of the price spectrum. The Times wrote: “When Nicolas Potel, son of Gérard, set up shop he was clearly destined for the top. What has surprised Burgundy watchers is how swiftly Potel Junior has hit the spot.” He founded Roche de Bellene in 2009, intending to become Burgundy’s only ‘Haute Couture’ négociant. Key to this is his close work with growers to create wines focused on individual terroirs and precious old vines. This, his entry level red, is lavished with the same skill and professional pride as his illustrious Grands Crus and will appeal to beginners and experts alike. Supple enough to drink on its own and ideal with seared tuna.

For me, this is always outstanding Burgundy, especially given the quality and the price
