Founded by monks in 1851, Mission Estate is renowned worldwide. Head winemaker Paul Mooney is meticulous when practising his craft, matching grapes to vineyard, wine to barrel. A gorgeously rich, layered white – ripe yet stony crisp and elegant.

The Wine
Called ‘the birthplace of New Zealand wine’ for good reason, Mission Estate was established back in 1851. Today it’s a wonderfully grand cellar in Hawke’s Bay, with vineyards in New Zealand’s finest wine regions. Paul Mooney has been chief winemaker at Mission for over 30 years. He knows every row of vines by heart, and the subtle nuances each cooper endows to his or her barrels. This Grand Cru style Chardonnay uses grapes from four Hawke’s Bay vineyards. This is one of New Zealand’s sunniest areas, but cooled by ocean breezes. Only the softly pressed juice is put into barrel for fermentation of this wine, then ageing for nine months on lees lends lovely, yeasty richness and creaminess. Reserve for your finest seafood or white meat dishes.
