We all know many species of monkey live in trees. But did you know one can be found in Germany’s Black Forest? Around a third of the 47 botanicals used to make this Schwarzwald Dry Gin were sourced locally and we think it’s better than any gateau.

The Spirit
Now we’ve seen just about everything. We’ve had English fizz, fine red wine from the Lebanon, vodka made from milk and now a boutique gin from the Black Forest. And just wait until you try it – it’s very good indeed. Monkey 47 was conceived by an Englishman, Montgomery Collins. A diplomat’s son, he grew up in Asia among gin drinking colonials. After some years in post-war Berlin – where he helped rebuild the zoo and adopted a monkey named Max – ‘Monty’ opened a guesthouse, ‘The Wild Monkey', in the Black Forest. Here he found an ample supply of local botanicals and set about creating a gin that was a fusion of flavours from the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) and Asia. Perfect with tonic or as part of whichever gin cocktail wets your whistle.
