Quarter Horse Malbec Durif 2015
South Eastern Australia

The Littore family’s innovative Quarter Horse is a winner, appealing as much to fans of Argentina’s mighty Malbec reds as to those seduced by the darkest of all Aussie grapes, Durif. Pitch black and brooding, it’s a rich, velvety, rewarding red.

The Wine
You wouldn’t guess the Italian origins of cellar founders Mario and Aurora Littore from this wine’s grapes! Having arrived in northern Victoria in the 1950s, they recognised that, like back home, local conditions were ideal for vines and citrus trees, and established a wine and orchard venture now run by their children and grandchildren. The Littores have always been a family of innovators and over the last decade they’ve planted not only well-known international varieties, but vines rare in Australia such as Fiano, Moscato, Tempranillo and Petit Verdot. And they’ve acquired cooler sites in coastal Geelong for more delicate whites and reds. Quarter Horse comes into its own with marinated lamb shanks or some melt in the mouth pulled pork.
