Patagonia’s vineyards are some of the most southerly in the world. Windswept and with clear unpolluted skies, conditions are ideal. From one of the region’s most prominent estates, this is a glorious, rich, deep red using Argentina’s flagship grape.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.
The Wine
Lying on a similar latitude to New Zealand’s Otago, Patagonia has gained a stellar reputation for quality in the last decade. Not only is the scenery spectacular, but the windswept slopes and clear atmosphere are ideal for viticulture. No wonder a number of key players have established cellars there. Schroeder Estate was founded in 2001 by Herman Schroeder, whose father Luis had escaped inflation ridden Germany in the 1920s and set up as a farmer in Argentina. In the last 12 years it has won many awards, including ‘Winery of the Year 2006’. The soil is light and stony, the sunlight clear and meltwater plentiful, while a biting wind results in small, thick skinned berries, ideal for reds. Partly oaked, this wine is great with red meats.
