The Huguenot Sauvignon Blanc 2016
Western Cape WO

South Africa has a great reputation for Sauvignon Blanc in a style that slots neatly between the two touchstones of classic Loire and aromatically explosive New Zealand Sauvignon. The Huguenot has exuberant tropical fruit with lean citrus freshness.

The Wine
The Huguenot Sauvignon honours the contribution of Huguenots to the development of the Cape’s wine industry in the 1600s. It seamlessly combines the grassy, mineral and bolder tropical expressions of Sauvignon to great effect. Franschhoek Cellar is the team behind it, a co-op set up in 1945 and now an impressive private winery. Winemaker Richard Duckitt’s experience includes a season at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in the Napa where he learnt the art of blending. Drawing on small parcels of grapes grown on different soils and slopes, he’s crafted a truly distinctive Sauvignon. Delicious on its own and even better with grilled swordfish, mussels, tarragon chicken – Franschhoek is the culinary capital of South Africa after all, so be adventurous!

Very similar to the Chenin Blanc by the same winemaker, which I love! A very nice wine
