The Wine
Woodlands’ vineyard was established by David and Heather Watson as far back as 1973 – it was one of the first five to be planted in Margaret River. The couple aimed to create wines to emulate the greats of Bordeaux, and if critical acclaim is anything to go by (98 points for their Cabernet 2011, the first Margaret River wine to win a Trophy, and many more since), they succeeded. In 2010 they were awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the industry. But the Watsons are not ready to sit on their laurels just yet. They’re now set to make the finest Chardonnay. Fermented in barrel, just like a cru Burgundy, this wine has complexity and finesse, with layers of ripe fruit and toasty oak balanced by brilliant zip. Savour with chicken or seafood.
