The Wine
Veteran wine journalist Anthony Rose chose Château Bonneau 2010 as one of his Top 100 Wines of the Vintage after tasting it at the en primeur (pre-release) stage. He wrote: “Spending 15 months in older barriques, this Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot blend shows good colour, attractively juicy ripe dark cherry and cassis fruit, nicely rounded and textured by a subtle touch of oak. Very nicely done, and very much a food wine.” Tasting it some five years later it is clear Mr Rose was on the money and the wine has evolved gracefully. Back in 2010 the property was still owned by Luc Thienpont, brother of Jacques, owner of Pomerol’s famous Le Pin. This is a justifiably renowned Haut-Médoc at a very reasonable price, and divine with roast lamb.
