Château de Parsac 2009
Montagne Saint-Emilion AOC

Montagne produced superbly rich wines in the much lauded 2009 vintage. From an estate owned by the Rothschild family (owners of legendary First Growth Lafite Rothschild) this fine Right Bank claret could easily rival Grand Cru Saint Emilion.

The Wine
Château de Parsac certainly looks the part – just how many of us imagine a classic Bordeaux château should be. Perhaps that’s why it caught the eye of Edmond de Rothschild, a scion of Bordeaux’s most famous winemaking dynasty, who snapped it up when it went on the market in 2000. The house was built in the 19th century, but the estate, with its vine clad limestone slopes, dates back to the Middle Ages.
A great bargain from an outstanding vintage (with the big names upping prices to meet demand), this silky claret is made mostly from Merlot, with a little raspberry scented Cabernet Franc and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. It will be spot on with roast lamb or beef, or with game birds such as pheasant or duck.
"All the opulence and rich, plummy flavour of fine Saint Emilion but at Montagne satellite prices"
Jean-Marc Sauboua
