The Wine
The Côtes de Castillon is a part of Bordeaux that few have heard of, yet its vines run right up to those of Saint Emilion, with little dividing them bar a country lane. They share the same soils, climate and grapes. As Wine International magazine wrote, “If it wasn’t for the political line dividing it from Saint Emilion, its wines would be twice or three times the price.” No wonder that in the last decade some of the glitterati of the Right Bank have bought up properties there. Château du Bois is a 14th century property, the extensive slopes of which look out across to fancier Saint Emilion names. Once a cultural hub, where poets met, today it focuses on vines and wines. Gently oaked, this is an attractive, supple, luncheon claret.
