Domaine des Pierres Dorées 2015
Beaujolais AOC

For a red with elegant fruit and a delicious bite of freshness, head for Beaujolais – a classic French region, the wines of which are seriously undervalued. Using old vine grapes for intensity, this is a compelling, silky, strawberry scented red.

The Wine
The supple, fruity wines of Beaujolais are well worth seeking out, especially in the small but outstanding 2015 vintage. Domaine des Pierres Dorées is a family property owned by Jean-Paul Devay, whose grandfather planted vineyards in the 1890s. Based in the village of Le Breuil, the domaine takes its name from the golden colour of the local stone, from which many of the villages are built. With rolling hills and vineyards as high as 500 metres, Beaujolais is one of the prettiest of France’s wine regions. The Gamay grape achieves juicy ripeness while maintaining its natural, lively acidity. With bright berry fruit and incomparable quaffability, this wine is great served cool on its own, with charcuterie or with rustic pâté and crusty bread.
"Jammy and lively with dancing feet. One of those lip-smacking Gamays. Excellent value, too"
