The Wine
Of the 73 hectares of vineyards owned by revered Domaine Joseph Drouhin, the most precious is a tiny parcel of just 0.13 hectares in Chambertin Clos de Bèze. This Grand Cru appellation in northern Côte de Nuits is one of Burgundy’s finest plots – its mix of red clay and chalk on east-facing slopes is the perfect terroir for the world’s most complex, fragrant Pinot Noirs. Here the fourth winemaking generation of the Drouhin family take a rigorous approach to their craft that reaps substantial rewards. Low yields in 2011 added extra concentration to the fruit before 18 months oak ageing. Sumptuous and elegant, this definitive Burgundy deserves the richest of meats such as venison or duck. Cellar for a decade or more for limitless refinement.
"Focused, energetic and overtly powerful large scale flavors that culminate in an austere finish"
