The Wine
Edizione Limitata is a private bottling of a top-flight Chianti in the “vintage of the century” (The Drinks Business). And it would normally cost a lot more. John Matta is a legend who has been crowned ‘Winemaker of the Year’ four times by the IWSC judges in London. His 14th century estate, Castello Vicchiomaggio, is one of Tuscany’s finest and its top cuvée sells for £150 a bottle. However, with a barrel or two of fine 2015 to spare, John offered us a great price in a bid to win over more UK friends. The plain label is so as to not upset his regular customers. The wine is Sangiovese (with a splash of Cabernet) aged in oak to lace the gorgeous sour cherry fruit with a chocolatey richness. Enjoy with cannelloni and other Italian classics.
