The Wine
According to Jancis Robinson MW, “Luís Pato is one of the most inventive winemakers anywhere and certainly within Portugal.” In 1980, Luís’ father became the first grower in Bairrada to bottle his own wine under the region’s newly created denomination. The Baga grape is the backbone of the region, although its high levels of tannin and acidity mean it’s often overlooked by winemakers who are after an easy life (unless they’re producing Bairrada’s traditional method sparkling wines). Luís, however, loves Baga and thanks to careful site selection and meticulous winemaking he’s created a range of wines with an enviable reputation worldwide. This entry level selection is a smooth blend of Baga and Touriga Nacional, and ideal with grilled meats.
