The Wine
The light gold hue of this white is a giveaway for oak and ripeness in this exotically fruity white. RedHeads winemaker Dan Graham often visits Robin Day’s beautiful vineyards in the cooler, elevated area of Mount Crawford, in the south of the Barossa. At a slightly higher altitude, the grapes take longer to ripen – some of the last to be harvested – but the flavour is all the more pronounced for that. The substantial portion of Marsanne – a variety found in the warm Rhône – is from warmer Lyndoch and adds underlying creamy peach and spice. This is a richly textured white, fuller and rounder thanks to fermentation and six months ageing in oak, with regular stirring of the lees – the full works, in fact, for this mouthfilling white.
"The Rhône’s Marsanne and Viognier team up with Italy’s Garganega – a white with abundant character"
