The Wine
For some of Italy’s finest wines, head for Piedmont. There you’ll discover Barolo, Barbaresco and Gavi. Less well known is the wonderful Arneis grape – floral scented with creamy hazelnut and apricot character, and so good in Roero that it was raised to DOCG status. The sandy soils of this tiny, hilly region, northwest of Alba, bring out the grape’s ripe stone fruit intensity, which you’ll find in abundance in this white. It’s from talented winemaker Bruno Cordero, who also crafts fine Barolo at Piedmont’s award winning Terre da Vino cellar. He insisted on hand picked grapes, gently pressed, then fermented at a controlled, cool temperature to ensure purity of flavour. Enjoy with grilled fish, chicken, or herby pasta with sage butter.
"What a charmer – blossom and apricot scented with a creamy nuttiness. A really stylish Italian"
