Split Rock Pinot Noir 2013
Nelson

Long slow ripening is essential for elegant expressive Pinot Noir. Thanks to cooling sea breezes, that’s just what Nelson, along the coast from Marlborough, provides. Old vines ensure this fine red has intense berry richness and spicy complexity too.

The Wine
Tim Atkin MW notes: “New Zealand’s Pinot Noirs are as good as anyone’s outside Burgundy” (The Observer). These days they can also be pretty pricey but, with Split Rock, you can enjoy elegant, cool climate Pinot Noir at an affordable price. It’s from an estate founded in the 1970s by Hermann Seifried, and today run by son Chris and daughter Heidi. A dentist by day and winemaker by night, Heidi is the talent behind this delicious, silky, intense red. Named after a nearby landmark, Split Apple Rock in the Abel Tasman National Park, the wine has ripe berry, plum and chocolate character with a smooth, supple, understated brilliance. Take your time over this wine. Serve in large bowled glasses with duck breast or grilled New Zealand lamb chops.
"Excellent Pinot. An extremely balanced Pinot with an excellent finish. Highly recommended"
