The Monastery Merlot 2015

Want a glass of velvety, ripe red fruit with a touch of elegance? Open this full bodied Merlot. It’s a fine example of the exceptional quality that can now be found in Romania. It comes from a modern, well equipped winery that is ideally situated to vinify the grapes from south facing vineyards in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Made by Lorena Deaconu, the wine is named after a local monastery that overlooks the vines and is unique for housing an ancient church so small that its front is hewn from the trunk of a single mighty oak. The Monastery features Merlot’s forward, plummy flavours and velvety texture. The Romanians would partner it with the local spicy sausages. It’s also a perfect match for everyday suppers like goulash.
